The idea for our original MurphySofa was about helping people maximize their living space or to have guests spend the night comfortably when their homes didn’t have enough rooms for a guest bedroom.  That’s when we came up with the idea to have a couch on one side of a murphy bed cabinet, then have the cabinet fold over the sofa portion when it's time for guests to sleep.

Unlike a sofa bed where the mattress is stored inside the frame, a murphy bed with a couch can keep the frame open allowing for additional storage including blankets, seasonal items, and anything else you’d like.  And with more space available, you can have a larger mattress making murphy beds with couches more comfortable than sleeper sofas.

What size mattresses do your wall bed sofas take?

All of our wall beds with couches are compatible with our 8” and most with our 10” mattresses.  If you want to use your own mattress, we’ve got you covered.  Each product page shares the specific sizes and dimensions so you can buy one of our mattresses or pair it with your current one.

Which is better, a murphy bed and couch combination or a sleeper sofa?

Both sleeper sofas and murphy bed couch combinations are good choices but serve different purposes.  If you only need to sleep guests and storage is not an issue, a sleeper sofa will take up a bit less space than a wall bed with a sofa.

If you want more storage space then a wall bed and sofa combination allows the inside of the couch to be storage compartments, and you can buy king or queen size murphy beds with couches that have additional storage units and shelves built into the cabinetry.  

Murphy beds with couches tend to be more comfortable to sleep on than sleeper sofas as they hold normal size mattresses rather than folding and compacted mattresses like you’ll find in a sofa bed.

What size murphy bed couch combinations do you sell?

We manufacture, design, and sell all four standard size wall bed couch combinations including twin, full or double, queen, and king.  If you’re planning on moving to a larger space, we recommend going with a queen size as it fits in most apartments and can match most rooms in a single family home.  If you have a large space, go with a king size folding murphy bed and couch combination.  And for studio apartments and smaller guest rooms or home offices, a double or full size wall bed couch combination works great.

Can I use my own sofa or use my existing murphy bed?

It’s not as simple as just adding a sofa in front of an existing murphy bed. Murphy Bed couch combinations are specialized systems that typically have a higher fold over height to allow a normal sofa sitting height. The Sofas also do not have back structures to them as they rest against the Murphy Bed. Your existing sofa, unless backless, will not be able to work.
